SICK LEAVE BANK Sign Up (and Benefits Fair Coming on Tuesday, May 13)

Take note of Benefits Fair next week!  Steve Frankel and I will be there with Forms for the UPI Sick Leave Bank.  This has been a very helpful benefit for new faculty and staff, and for those of us with ongoing leaves who run out of sick leave days.  If you haven’t signed up, please consider it now.

The 2014 Benefits Fair will be held in Alumni Hall in the Student Union from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, May 13, 2014. Representatives of our health, dental, vision, prescription drug, and life insurance plans will be on campus to assist with open enrollment questions. Additionally, representatives from Deferred Compensation, Prudential (long-term disability), tax sheltered annuity vendors, credit unions, and banks will also be present to open accounts or answer questions.

NO BENEFITS BOOKLETS WILL BE MAILED TO EMPLOYEES. Benefits Options Booklets are available on line at (click on State Employees to be able to view the booklet).

There are five health plans available to Northeastern Illinois University employees:

  • HMO of Illinois (a Blue Cross & Blue Shield HMO);
  • Blue Advantage (a smaller subset of HMO Illinois);
  • HealthLink OAP;
  • Coventry OAP; and
  • Quality Care Health Plan (CIGNA).
Other plans may be available to employees who reside in the collar counties.There are no premium increases, although co-pays and deductibles have increased.

Open enrollment for changes to your health, dental, or life insurance is possible during the month of May. During this time you may add or drop dependents, and add, increase or decrease your life insurance. Information on what documents are necessary to add dependents are on the website listed above. All changes must be turned in to the Benefits Office no later than Tuesday, June 2, 2014 at 4 p.m.

Please remember that if you are enrolled in the Flexible Spending Plan — whether for Medical or Child Care — a new enrollment form needs to be completed and turned in to the Benefits Office no later than Tuesday, June 2, 2014 at 4 p.m.
