Re: The Academic Regalia Program

This is a reminder that a representative of Jostens (our current vendor for regalia rental) will be on campus September 2 and September 3 from 12 p.m. – 6 p.m. in Village Square to take measurements and orders for the Academic Regalia Program. President Hahs is pleased to be able to continue the Academic Regalia Program this year, enabling faculty to purchase their academic regalia for Commencement at a reduced price. The program is open to all Professors, Associate Professors, Assistant Professors, and Instructors, as well as Administrative and Professional employees who are also invited to participate in NEIU Commencements.

Under this arrangement, the university will cover half the cost of the Sussex model. This is a much higher quality gown, hood, and headgear than what we currently receive as a rental. In addition, your regalia will be custom-fitted to you. The estimated cost to each faculty member will range from $350 to $450. You may also order replacement pieces for regalia you already own. Jostens is licensed for many institutions with custom regalia; however, Jostens is not licensed for all institutions, which means they must try to replicate certain universities’ colors. If you prefer to order your regalia directly from your terminal degree-granting institution rather than using the services of Jostens, the university will reimburse you for half the cost up to $500, but not including sales tax. Upon receipt, care and maintenance of regalia will be your responsibility.

In the long term, this program will result in cost savings for the University by reducing the number of regalia rentals each year. More importantly, it represents the University’s investment in faculty.
